Weed Abatement Program

The City of Upland’s Weed Abatement Program helps reduce fire hazards and protect the community. The program includes property inspections and notification to property owners to maintain their properties free of weeds, debris, and other combustible materials.

The program operates annually from January through July, with fire prevention remaining a year-round responsibility.

Property Owner Responsibilities

Property owners are required to maintain their property to reduce fire risk, including:

  • Removing dead or dying vegetation, including material beneath shrubs and groundcover
  • Removing dead tree material, including palm fronds
  • Keeping weeds and grasses below 4 inches
  • Trimming and maintaining all vegetation
  • Pruning trees and shrubs to reduce fire spread
  • Maintaining defensible space around structures
  • Keeping access paths clear to rear yards and structures
  • Removing and properly disposing of combustible debris

Inspections

Properties are inspected for conditions that may contribute to the spread of fire. Maintaining your property helps protect your home, neighbors, and the community.
