Upland Recreation and Community Services hosts a number of Winter Special Events & Activities, bringing the community together for exciting, fun-filled experiences
for the whole family.

7th Annual Tree Lighting Celebration

Friday, December 2

Join the City of Upland as we celebrate the holiday season at the 7th Annual Tree Lighting Celebration!   Enjoy a free evening of family & friends, a 15-foot tree, crafts & games, vendors & craft faire, entertainment, contests, hot cider, and trackless train ride as the City tree comes alive with the glow of the season.

This event is an amazing way to connect with the community and receive great exposure. Your business will bring meaningful memories and experiences to the residents of our local community. The event is highly regarded and approximately 1000 participants are expected.

Breakfast With Santa

Upland Recreation and Community Services, Upland-Foothill Kiwanis, and Upland Boy Scouts - Troop 601, have teamed up once again to bring Santa Claus down from the North Pole for our annual Breakfast with Santa!  Your visit with Santa will include a super delicious breakfast of pancakes, sausage, juice, and coffee.  Children will have an opportunity to share their "wish list' with Santa.  Pictures may be taken with personal cameras.

New this year:  Register for 8:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m., with breakfast served from 8:00 a.m.-8:30 a.m., or register for 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m., with breakfast served from 9:30 a.m.-10:00 a.m.

Please Note:  Breakfast with Santa is sold out!

When was the last time you told Santa your wishes? Children and those young at heart, whether or good or bad, can write to Santa Claus and receive a letter in return.

Sent from the North Pole, Santa Claus will be sure to send his greetings before the Big Day! When writing, please be sure to include your name and address.

Holiday Puzzle Palooza

Assemble a team and head on down to the Gibson Senior Center for our Holiday Puzzle Palooza for fun and a chance to win prizes!  Compete as a team, to see how fast you can piece together a holiday-themed puzzle.  All teams will be provided the same puzzle design.  Design will not be announced in advance.  

Youth Round:  Teams of two will be challenged to assemble a 100-piece puzzle in one-hour.  All participants must be 5-7 or 8-10 years of age.

Family Round:  Your family will be challenged to assemble a 500-piece puzzle in less than 2 hours.  Family teams must have at least one participant aged 15 or younger, with a maximum of four players.

Adult Round:  Piece together your adult team to assemble a 500-piece puzzle in less than 2 hours.  All participants must be 16 years of age or older, with a maximum of four players.

Kids...get ready for a fun-filled night created just for you!  Enjoy fun holiday-themed games & activities, craft projects, a holiday-themed movie, and of course, pancakes in pajamas!

Home For The Holidays Home Decorating Contest

Upland residents are invited to enter the Home For The Holidays Home Decorating Contest and get into the holiday spirit!   Homeowners may register or be nominated.  Judging will be based on curb appeal only for exterior decorations, including decorations that are visible outside. 

All entries must be received no later than 6:00 p.m. on Monday, December 12.  

This year’s decorating categories include:
Most Whimsical, Merry & Bright, and Holiday Spirit

The fun isn’t over yet!  After the winners have been chosen for each category, visit the Upland Recreation and Community Services Facebook page to vote for your favorite from Monday, December 19 through Thursday, December 22 at 12:00 p.m.  Each “like” clicked for each entry counts as one vote.   

Winners will receive a “Home For The Holidays” theme inspired yard sign created by The Sawdust Factory’s holiday helpers.   The “Fan Favorite” will receive a special holiday prize.  Be creative!  Be festive!  Have Fun!

Upland Recreation and Community Services is excited to continue our partnership with The Sawdust Factory to provide Winter "Take & Make" Craft Kits with a Valentine's Day flair for kids of all ages!  Yes, adults are included, too!  

Each craft kit created exclusively for Upland Recreation and Community Services participants contains a Valentine's Day themed wood cut-out, paint, and paint brush.  All that's needed is your creativity and perhaps some glue and Sharpie marker to provide a personal touch from the comfort of your own home.
